From a young age, Eileen C. was drawn to the world of skincare. She recalls an early moment of clarity when, holding up a jar of her mother’s facial cream she thought, “I want to make this.” By secondary school, Eileen had set her sights on becoming a skincare formulator. This passion led her to sign up for a newly launched diploma program in Perfumery and Cosmetic Science at Singapore Polytechnic. She excelled. At the same time, she immersed herself in the world of beauty, refining her judgement of what makes a great formulation by writing detailed skincare product reviews on her blog.

She first joined P&G as a Clinical Trials Manager for skincare, where she coordinated research studies with external clinical sites, ensuring regulatory compliance and analyzing data to validate product efficacy and clinical claims support. Her passion and commitment to pursue her dream led her to dedicate three years to a part-time Master's in Cosmetic Science from the University of Cincinnati, ultimately achieving her dream role as a skincare formulator.

Eileen’s approach to solving complex formulation challenges is to create a clear, reasonable hypotheses and then test it quickly with fast prototyping and a battery of well-chosen measurements. She also leans on cross-functional collaboration. The biggest high for her is when the consumer studies come back and her formula is a hit. “Winning the hearts of the consumers brings me joy” she says.

Her first significant project was the launch of a new anti-aging rich cream for a global skincare brand. The project, which featured an exceptionally rich yet absorbent texture, faced tight timelines and formulation challenges. Eileen worked closely with senior team members and business partners to develop and test 60-70 prototypes in just three months, a process that usually takes a year.

The result was a product with superior efficacy and delightful sensory properties. It has since exceeded expectations across all channels in China.

Eileen recently received the P&G FORCE award for Research Excellence, an internal prestigious award only given to the top 2% of the global formulation team. As impressive as her accomplishments have been, Eileen is quick to acknowledge that she could not have done it on her own. She thanks her managers Hannah Farida (Ria) Acosta and Anurag Makrandi and her entire Formulation team for their support.

Congrats, Eileen on your remarkable journey!
